The Nzema Association was founded by Mr. Niamke J. Etchene, along with a group of Nzema men and women from Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire who migrated to Florida in 1990. The association was officially registered in the State of Florida in 2005.
In 2015, the association’s name was changed to Nzema Association Inc., during the creation of Nzema in the Diaspora. In 2018, Nzema people residing in the USA officially established the Nzema Association in the Diaspora, Inc., allowing all member states to form their associations. Subsequently, the Nzema Association of Florida Inc. was renewed and restated on October 23, 2020, by a vote of 18 to 3.
