NAD PROJECT
At Nzema Association in the Diaspora (NAD), we are committed to the advancement of Nzema communities through strategic projects focused on health, education, and economic empowerment. Below is an overview of our key ongoing and past initiatives.
THE NZEMA ASSOCIATION IN THE DIASPORA (NAD)
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Hospital Project is one of our flagship initiatives aimed at improving healthcare access and quality for Nzema communities. The hospital, once completed, will serve as a regional healthcare hub, providing critical medical services to both urban and rural areas in Nzemaland.
OTHER PROJECTS
Nzemaland Education PUSH Project
This project raised funds to provide school furniture and computers to Half Assini Secondary School, Kikam Technical School, and Insein Secondary School.
Caring Hands Project
This project donated bedsheets and medical supplies to Axim Health Care Center and Half Assini Health Care Center.
Providing Support
Providing support to African families in the U.S. by assisting with funeral arrangements and repatriating deceased loved ones to Ghana.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Nzema communities lack adequate medical facilities. Currently, the districts rely on a few under-resourced health centers in Axim and Half Assini, which fail to meet the growing demand for healthcare services. The rise of oil and gas industries in the area and the increased presence of military personnel make a modern hospital necessary.
This project aims to raise $265 million to construct the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Hospital and Research Center, in honor of the first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah, who hailed from Nzema.
Key Features of the Hospital
- – 100 medical rooms
- – VIP inpatient ward with 40 beds
- – Emergency and Casualty Department (including triage, surgery, X-ray, and pharmacy)
- – Specialized services like maternity, pediatrics, surgery, and orthopedics
- – Research and Laboratory facilities for microbiology, hematology, and pathology
- – Staff housing, kitchen, and administrative offices
- – Parking spaces for over 120 vehicles
- – Modern infrastructure including a medical gas plant, sterilization department, and sewage/water treatment plants.
Preparation and Land Acquisition
The local chief, Nana Base Kpayilin II, and his Elders generously donated 30.8 acres of land in the Jomoro District of the Western Region of Ghana for the construction of the hospital. This land, valued at $1 million, is vital to the project’s development. An additional $30,000 has already been spent to secure the necessary land documentation, including the site plan. The hospital’s architectural design is currently under preparation.
Demonstrated Need for the Hospital
The Nzema region faces several pressing health challenges, which this hospital aims to address. These include:
- – High maternal and neonatal mortality rates
- – Malaria, the leading cause of mortality in the region
- – Lack of referral centers for HIV/AIDS and TB patients
- – Inadequate diagnostic centers for modern medical evaluations
- – Poor sanitation and limited healthcare personnel
- – Lack of emergency care, particularly for maternal complications and infectious diseases

Call for Donor Support
The Nzema Association in the Diaspora seeks monetary and material donations from local, national, and international communities, individuals, foundations, and governments. The funds raised will contribute to the construction and operationalization of the hospital, allowing the Nzema region to tackle rampant diseases and healthcare inadequacies. The hospital will play a pivotal role in reducing high mortality rates due to preventable diseases like malaria, anemia, tuberculosis, cholera, and maternal complications.
Donations will also support the hospital’s aim of becoming a major healthcare provider for visitors, expatriates, and residents from both Ghana and neighboring Cote d’Ivoire. The project is not only essential for improving health outcomes but also for fostering economic development and providing employment opportunities in the region.
